Japan Post Group is working towards the realization of the "Future Post Office" by blending the strengths of traditional services with digital technology to offer customers new experiences. In an effort to support local communities, they are exploring digital solutions, such as the internet and tablets, at community-centric post office locations, thereby aiming to enhance the entire region. As part of this initiative, Japan Post will launch sales of NFT art at post office locations, which will promote the town and enable support for the town through purchases.
In October 2024, Yamanobe Town in Yamagata Prefecture, known for its exceptional manufacturing quality, will mark its 70th anniversary with a special celebration. As the first initiative of this project, two unique digital art pieces themed around the anniversary will be offered for sale. Additionally, promotional videos showcasing the town will be displayed at local post offices within Yamanobe Town and at the Tokyo Central Post Office. The digital art features unique designs commemorating the "70th Anniversary of the Municipal Organization" of Yamanobe Town, inspired by the town's signature shaved ice mascots, "Sudamarin-chan" and "knit motif".
Proceeds from the NFT art sales will contribute to the maintenance and development of Yamanobe Town. Benefits for NFT purchasers visiting Yamanobe Town are under consideration, with further details to be announced as the initiative develops.
